The visionary game developer, renowned for co-creating the globally famous franchise Call of Duty, has died in a car accident in the state of California at the age of 55.

Zampella's death was announced by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, a game studio that he helped create.

The renowned game designer passed away following his car crashed and was engulfed in flames on a highway in the Los Angeles area on this past Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This is a heartbreaking loss, and our hearts are with Vince's family, his family, and the countless individuals inspired by his work," an official with Electronic Arts said.
