This Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Aims to Curb the Influence On Resellers

Marking the arrival of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration has been formed. Pokémon's creators and the Natural History Museum are opening a temporary store featuring exclusive items. Enthusiasts can look forward to offerings including stationery, plushes, and artwork all drawing from the museum's theme. The big draw, though, is a limited-edition Pikachu card, offered as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. The store is scheduled from the physical location and online between late January and mid-April.

Pokécology That Inspires the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited tome filled with stunning illustrations depicting Pokémon in their natural habitats. It's essentially like what an in-world scientist could produce after trainers submit their data, or a naturalist's journal could have sketched had the famous islands teemed with Pidgeys instead of finches. A key appeal lies in the book's serious treatment, presenting Pokémon as worthy of subject for study. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess doctorate degrees in animal behavior and ecology.

What Makes This Special Card Stand Out

It is common to issue special edition cards for major tournaments and crossover partnerships. Many such promotional cards often feature the iconic mouse Pokémon that acts as the series face. The factor setting this new museum card however, is the unusually large dimensions. While exact measurements were not immediately shared, availability is guaranteed to be highly restricted, and customers able to get just one card per purchase.

Curbing Reseller Interest

Per an official announcement, a portion of the merchandise will also be sold outside the institution itself. But, a wider release is slated for specific stores within the United Kingdom. Critically, collectors cannot purchase this promo via the official web shop. While speculator demand is inevitable, it appears they will have a difficult time stockpiling large numbers this time around. If you're feeling left out, there is the upcoming fossil-themed display headed to Chicago in the coming months.

"All profits of sales from the museum store and from its web shop, including Pokémon products, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. This includes the efforts of 400 scientists who are scientific inquiry and finding answers to the global ecological crisis," the statement notes.
