The Gruesome Animated Film Ending That Lingers Audiences
Out of every adult-oriented cartoon movies I’ve personally watched, no other has remained with me as much as the fear-filled conclusion of a viscerally violent as well as overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
Back in the year 2015, the Spanish writer-director developed a dark, melancholy and often savage universe with some tiny , desolate glimmers of optimism.
Although Unicorn Wars appears as it stemmed from a drive to push animation further, the director clarified that it was more a try to convey a widespread, cross-cultural theme concerning “the shared root of all wars.”
That idea is expressed by means of a group of vividly colored bears , clearly modeled after a well-known line of lovable figures.
Maturing in a community built around aggression as well as the defense industry, many of the bears are consumed by slaughtering unicorns, due to a sacred text which states the bears they used to be kings of the forest, until the unicorns expelled them.
Some have not completely accepted the brainwashing, and prefer to sample drugs and mate outdoors.
In contrast to their friendly equivalents, these vivid animals have visible sexual organs , obvious urges.
For one notably brutal, pessimistic creature, Bluey, the war against unicorns becomes a route toward dominance — and especially to authority over his softer, kinder brother the character Tubby.
The character is a bully , an apparent sociopath , and as terror overcomes his squad and kills his teammates one by one, he takes increasingly influence on his own behalf, via progressively violent, harmful methods.
Meanwhile, the unicorns are experiencing their own terror, through an expanding, harmful creature in their woods.
“Initially, it seems like a comedy,” the filmmaker commented. “Yet it turns into a more dramatic and sad movie. And in the finale, it’s a horror film.”
The Unicorn Wars commences similar to one of the more playful films from a legendary animator, which find a mischievous joy in allowing animated figures curse, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.
Afterward it turns into more akin to a more grim work by that same artist, with increasingly visual gore , a tangible relation to the real suffering of battle.
By the end, it is a complete extreme drama bloodbath.
The fear that makes this a Halloween-friendly movie kicks in much sooner than one might expect.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore fans of gore, for fans of extreme cinema who want to see a film they have not watched previously, and who can handle a narrative that pulls unflinching brutality.
Watch it in a dark room without any distractions, and the conclusion will crawl under your skin and take up residence there.
