Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
