Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Service of Carols Spotlights Unsung Heroes

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The large audience will hear a blend of carols, music and readings from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a message before the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians backed by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the former royal to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
