“It was unfortunate. It was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “Present was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the gesture was completely unintentional, occurring amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I simply showed the incorrect finger,” he noted. “It was inadvertently performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”

This is not the first time an league proprietor has been penalized for misconduct. Previous cases involve:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for tossing a beverage at fans in early 2024.
