Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
A senior political figure commented the attack made him without words and required to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
