Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few key changes:
- Each team has just 8 real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for players seeking different ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
Community Responses: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
